About Us

City Cast Chicago is Chicago’s first daily news podcast, celebrating and challenging the city’s  news breakers and culture makers; activists and artists; neighbors and ne’er-do-wells. City Cast Chicago is also a daily email that’s got the news you need, plus what to do tonight, where to eat this weekend, and all kinds of delightful ways to connect with the city. Both the podcast and email are free and fresh every weekday morning at 6 a.m.

Simone Alicea

The tourist trap that’s actually great:
The architecture boat tour is so much more interesting than it sounds.

Best book or movie about Chicago:
“Will Grayson, Will Grayson” by John Green and David Levithan. Yes, it’s a YA book. But as a 15-year-old girl on the West Coast, reading about the misadventures these two titular suburban boys were having in Chicago made me want to have my own.

Let’s eat here:
5 Loaves Eatery for salmon and grits with lemon zest pancakes.

Chicago does this better than any other city:
Roller skate.

Best book or movie about Chicago:
“Southside” by Natalie Moore.

A place in Chicago that not enough people know about:
The Winter Garden on the ninth floor of the Harold Washington Library.

Let’s eat here:
Korean BBQ pork tacos and hot stone bibimbap from Del Seoul for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Chicago does this better than any other city:
Pride. In Chicago, unlike maybe New York or D.C., no one is trying to be somebody else. Also, we’re better at waiting for the bus in the cold.

Best book or movie about Chicago:
“The Fugitive”…and shout-out to “Adventures in Babysitting” because there are some awesome scenes of Lower Wacker.
