Your Daily Guide

Hi there! One of my favorite things to do with out-of-town visitors has always been Wieners Circle without warning. Am I a bad person for sitting back, giggling while they get absolutely destroyed by a cashier at 1 a.m.? That marquee has been roasting people since 1983, but I still can’t grasp that co-owner Matt Brewer is running for mayor. And no, it’s not a bit.

What Chicago's Talking About

Up, Up, and Away!

The first river bridge lift of the season starts today at 9:30 a.m., starting at the DuSable Lake Shore Drive bridge, and will work west to the 18th Street Bridge so sailboats can get out and into winter storage. If you’re driving through downtown today, be prepared to wait. Each lift stops traffic for eight to 12 minutes, and they run mostly Wednesdays and Saturdays through Nov. 14. [NBC]

Thousands Set to Lose Medicaid Coverage After Today

Roughly 9,300 immigrants in Illinois, including refugees, asylum seekers, and survivors of human trafficking, lose Medicaid coverage after today under H.R.1, the law President Donald Trump signed last year as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The state's healthcare department called it a "cruel measure" and warned it's the start of a much bigger rollback. [WBEZ]

City Council Signs Off on Parking Meter Sale

The City Council approved investment firm Stonepeak Partners' $2.53 billion bid for Chicago's parking meters. The city will receive a $75 million transfer fee at closing, and 5% of net income from now on. The New York firm announced yesterday it sold Omni Air International, the airline running deportation flights for the Department of Homeland Security, after a dozen progressive alders said they wouldn’t agree unless they sold it. Von Humboldt School to Become Affordable Housing

After a decade of false starts, the shuttered Von Humboldt Elementary is finally becoming affordable housing. The city approved $66.2 million to close a years-long funding gap at the Humboldt Park school, which has sat empty since the 2013 mass school closings. The development is planned to be completed in June 2028. [Block Club]
