Feds Used Flock to Tag Marimar Martinez

Before federal prosecutors dropped their case against Marimar Martinez, the teacher shot five times by a Border Patrol agent, and Anthony Ruiz, they pulled roughly 300 photos of the pair’s cars from Flock license plate readers across Cook County. Although Illinois law bars local police from aiding federal immigration agents, they aren’t restricted in criminal matters. Over 500 law enforcement agencies across the state use Flock. Finalists for the 25th Banchet Awards, Chicago's homegrown food honors, were announced yesterday. River North steakhouse Asador Bastian and West Town’s Brasero are up for Restaurant of the Year, while West Loop’s Creepies landed two nods. Winners get named in January. [WBEZ]

Google bought the old state building and has been renovating it since 2024. Google moves in next year, while Morningstar is set to move in in late 2028. [CBS]

If you’re wondering where your usual creative producer is, she is still taking a well-deserved break in Lithuania! Her latest adventure? Emmi’s in Vilnius, “discovering a club in an underground tunnel behind the Tony Soprano statue.” We aren’t surprised at all. We miss you, Emmi!

If you want a taste of Lithuania yourself, South Side Weekly called Bernice’s Tavern in Bridgeport the “Best Place for a Sip of Little Lithuania,” in this year's Best of the South Side issue.
