Early voting opened yesterday at two downtown sites: the supersite at 137 S. State and the Board of Elections office at 69 W. Washington. On the ballot: candidates for U.S. Senate, Congress, Illinois governor, attorney general, Cook County board president, and Chicago school board. Early voting expands to all 50 wards on Oct. 19. CPS Didn’t Pay its Refs

A couple hundred officials who work Chicago Public League football games went on strike this week after Chicago Public Schools failed to pay them for several weeks due to payment issues. CPS cancelled multiple freshman and junior varsity games, along with volleyball and girls flag football games. However, CPS expedited payments on Wednesday, so this weekend’s varsity games are back on. [WGN/Sun-Times]

Michigan Avenue Is Getting a New Bus Lane

To curb delays through the Loop, a new bus lane is coming to Michigan Avenue. Department of Transportation has started painting the dedicated northbound lane from Roosevelt to Wacker this week. It's part of Better Streets for Buses, a CDOT and CTA push that also includes signal changes and boarding islands to keep buses out of traffic. Crews are working overnight and expected to finish in seven to 10 days, weather permitting. [ABC7]
